Choose your mehndi style

Mehndi designs are easier to choose when you know two things: where on the haath it will go, and how many minutes you have. That is how this whole site is arranged. The question beginners ask most is, “Which simple mehndi design can I finish before the function?” So every design here comes with a time, a level and one small trick, like where to put the first line or how to fix a smudge. Scroll the 40 picks below, then use the guide at the end to jump to the right page.

New to the cone? Begin with mehndi designs for beginners and practise on paper. Then learn how to make a mehndi cone at home, so the paste flows evenly.

Choose by Occasion

For Teej, Karva Chauth, Eid and Diwali, see festival mehndi designs. Festival dates change every year, so plan your booking early. For a shaadi, the bride’s family needs many styles at once: the dulhan, the groom (groom mehndi designs), young girls (mehndi designs for girls) and little ones. If you are hosting, our mehndi function ideas, mehndi decoration ideas and mehndi outfits pages cover the rest. Want fresh looks? Colour, Care and Safety

Good mehndi comes from natural henna, made from the dried leaves of Lawsonia inermis. It stains orange first and turns deep brown over 24 to 48 hours. Keep the paste on for 4 to 8 hours, or overnight for brides. Dab lemon-sugar when it dries, and avoid water for 12 to 24 hours. Read how to make mehndi dark for clove smoke and mustard oil tips, and how to remove mehndi when you want it gone.

Please avoid black henna. It often has PPD, a chemical that can cause severe skin reactions. Always do a patch test, especially for kids.

Common questions

Which is the most simple mehndi design for a beginner?

A gol tikki in the palm with fingertip caps. It takes about eight minutes and teaches you cone pressure.

What is the difference between mehndi ka design for front and back hand?

The front hand, or palm, stains darker and suits filled shapes. The back hand stains lighter and looks best with open trails and bands.

How can I make a mehndi design simple but still festive?

Pick one strong motif, like a kamal or a mor, and add a wrist band. Leave the rest of the haath bare.

Where can I find mehandi ki design for the whole family?

Use the guide above. We have pages for brides, grooms, girls, kids and beginners.

How long does mehendi stay on the hands?

About one to two weeks. Palms and feet keep colour longest; the back of the hand fades first.

Is easy mehndi design practice on paper useful?

Yes. Ten minutes a day on paper with a cone makes your lines steady within two weeks.

Is it mehndi, mehendi, mehandi or mahendi design?

All four spellings mean the same thing: henna paste drawn on the skin. Mehndi is the most common spelling, while mehendi, mehandi and mahendi are used in different regions. Every mahendi design on this site is the same as a mehndi design, so search however you like.
